This year the harvest at Maius, as has also happened in other Priorat wineries and wine regions, has been brought forward. The main reason has been the weather in recent months. A rainy spring and early summer, accompanied by a very hot June, has accelerated the ripening of the grapes.

Our organic vineyards, located in the highest part of Priorat, on the south side of the mountain, receive fewer hours of sunshine and are among the latest to be harvested. We usually start harvesting white grapes in the last week of September and red grapes between the first and second week of October. However, this year, the harvest has been brought forward two weeks and we are just getting started on the harvest. An unusual event compared to recent years.

Favorable prospects

This change, after three years of extreme drought, is expected to bring some respite to the wine sector, which is still suffering the consequences of the lack of rain. Although it is not expected to be a historic harvest, everything points to a season with more grapes and higher quality, results that in Maius, we are already starting to see.
